Please join Ascend NorCal on May 3rd for a special event featuring Dr. Josephine Kim who will share the plight of Asians in America, contextualize with history and acknowledge how the Asian culture processes discrimination. Dr. Kim will also share the nuances of the harm of the model minority myth and the perpetual foreigner stereotype. Open to all, welcoming our allies to the conversation.
We will also be providing a safe and inclusive space for those who wish to speak and discuss the recent acts of senseless violence, racism, and hatred towards Pan Asian Americans following the keynote and Q&A session.

Dr. Josephine M. Kim
Faculty at Harvard Graduate School of Education
Dr. Josephine M. Kim is Lecturer on Education at Harvard University and former faculty director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. As a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) officer, she steers equity and anti-racist practices of senior executive administrators in nonprofit organizations, corporations, and schools. She chairs DEI committees, creates award-winning pipeline programs that increase representation of underrepresented minority groups, and leads the institutionalization of cornerstone DEI initiatives. Through the Dean’s Advisory Committee on Equity and Diversity at Harvard Graduate School of Education, she helped to launch the “Fulfilling the promise of diversity” campa ign. She is an internationally known speaker and consultant who lends her expertise on cross-cultural, diversity and inclusion, and anti-racist leadership to media sources, organizations, and corporations in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. She is a former resident fellow in the Administrative Fellowship Program at the Office of the Assistant to the President for Institutional Diversity and Equity at Harvard University.
